About this archive
The Crimson Archive is a projection installation and a digital archive of wild flowers and their garden — Crimson Archive: The Gate, its beginning, a door into the archive. A field of blooms that stand in memory of the blood spilled and the sacrifice laid down. This archive does not only touch the history of Korea — it reaches into the spiritual realm as well.
Crimson red, here, is not only for mourning, but for celebration — for the freedom purchased by the blood spilled. It is also the color of something alive: conviction, resistance, and a freedom that had to be fought for.
This website is the archive's companion — a place to keep the stories behind the flowers, so that the installation points to something real, rooted in real history. Each entry below is a documented person or event from that history: those who laid themselves down in the pursuit of freedom. It is a living, evolving archive; new stories are added over time. And the garden — the Gate — is an embodiment, a physical vessel of this archive.

This archive is open — and meant to grow. The repository behind this
project is public: if you know a story that belongs here — a name, a
place, an event from the fight for freedom — you're welcome to add it
yourself, directly to the archive's source file, stories.js,
with no rebuild required. See the project README.md for the
exact format, and consider this an open invitation: help this garden keep
growing.
